Translating a digital illustration into a polished vector artwork. The study explores visual hierarchy, color, and composition, along with the challenge of keeping the looseness of the original in a precise vectorized medium.
Carrying rich color and painterly blending into vector meant pushing Illustrator in unique ways:
The process began with thumbnails, quickly thumbnailing different poses and angles that could be used. From there I began blocking out the character in more detail. No design details yet, so I could confirm the perspective before committing to it. Then I began to draw the design over the pose, blocking the color.
Finally I vectorized everything, maintaining the overall flow of lines and maintaining appealing shapes for the final render.
